Console Games

A console game is playable via specialised electronic device that is attached to a display screen such as a standard television or composite video monitor. It is a type of interactive multimedia, where players manipulate images and/or sounds as a form of entertainment. Players use a hand-held device or controller, which has several buttons and directional controls, as in analogue joysticks, designed for interactions with the screen display.

At present, the display, speakers, console, and controls may be integrated into one small device called hand-held game console. Game console data are typically stored in discs that are inserted into the console. Modern versions allow for downloading of games and demonstrations from the Internet directly to the console. Simpler ones, on the other hand, may only play a fixed selection of built-in games.

Some of the best-selling console games are “Pac-Man,” “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas,” “Guitar Hero II,” “Mario Bros.,” “Street Fighter II: The World Warrior,” “Final Fantasy XII,” and “Tetris.”
