Preproduction
Every gamer should notice this: there is an underlying story to every game. With the absence of a story, at least there is a brief narrative or plot. A game’s story is often contributed by game designers or solicited from outsiders. It is interesting to note that many video games are patterned by popular films, novels, or comic books. Some are simulations of real-world events like “The Sims” or spin-off sequels of existing games like “Dungeon Siege II.”

The Sims game
A basic game concept is deliberated for its viability before writers and artists combine their efforts to create a storyboard. A storyboard is basically a compilation of rough sketches and technical instructions that are sequentially organised to depict the game scenes. It is a visual illustration of the game’s narrative and used as a reference for writers, artists, and designers the same way as film makers do. However, video games do not have a single ending contrary to films. Gamers are introduced to several worlds or universes, and heroes or heroines upgrade to different levels. Each of these elements have to be sketched out.
